Feet and Legs: It’s Complicated!
Genetic advancement has been impressive, not only for production but for health and type traits too. Udders are now much more uniform across the breed than ever before, and a good udder bull will have high udder ratings in all countries. For feet & legs….not so much! Some bulls rate highly for feet & legs in some countries but are actually a minus in others. Has selection for feet & legs over the years really reduced the incidences of lameness and foot problems?
