In the genomic era with its short generation intervals and fast paced genetic gains it’s proving to be increasingly difficult for alternative bloodlines to keep up. The pool of bloodlines that are part of the elite bull breeding programs around the world continues to shrink and the level of in-breeding in the breed population is climbing at a faster rate than ever before. This backdrop amplifies the importance of our “Outcross Sire of the Year” competition in which we seek to highlight bulls with alternative pedigrees that can still compete with the mainstream bloodlines.
