Numerous northern Italian Holstein farms – located at the base of the powerful Alps – have a background as Brown Swiss herds: Or the “bruna”, the original brown cattle from the Alps. Many of them later transitioned to Holsteins. That is also true for the Ceresio herd owned by the Martinellis. Their transition worked out splendidly because the Ceresio prefix is now widely known within and beyond Italy, thanks to a continual stream of elite genetics.
