Canadian veterinarian Dr. Gordon Atkins is renowned internationally for his presentations on functional type in dairy cattle. He has been a practicing vet for more than 40 years, and since 2008 has been a member of the faculty of veterinary medicine at the University of Calgary. An official Holstein judge, he has also been a member of the Type Classification Advisory Committee for Holstein Canada. Here he looks at some of the challenges in evaluating feet and legs.
