Canadian Holsteins with several breeding stars often appear in HI. British Holsteins with several stars were placed in the spotlights in the March 2020 issue. Now we turn our attention to Switzerland, where the herdbook association Holstein Switzerland automatically calculates stars for the Holstein cows of its members. The other Swiss herdbook association, Swissherdbook, does not work with stars, but awards the title “Gold Medal” to cows that meet certain qualifications. In this article, we highlight both systems – and feature (a selection) of Holsteins that score high in these Swiss programs.
